NetStutter Privacy Policy
NetStutter simulates slow, intermittent, and offline network conditions on individual Chrome tabs that you explicitly enable. This policy explains the information used by the extension.
Information stored on your device
NetStutter saves your Current Settings and Profiles in local Chrome extension storage. This includes your selected network condition, custom download and upload speeds, latency, behavior mode, timing, and Profile names. This information is used only to provide the settings and Profile features you choose. Do not put sensitive information in Profile names.
Running tab IDs, configuration snapshots, network phases, and timers are held in memory while their sessions run. NetStutter briefly checks a tab's URL to determine whether the page supports network simulation. It does not save or transmit that URL or build a browsing history.
Information NetStutter does not collect
NetStutter does not send information to its developer or to third parties. It has no account system, analytics, telemetry, advertising, tracking, or external API. It does not collect personal identifiers, browsing history, website contents, cookies, authentication credentials, or request and response bodies or headers. It does not record network traffic.
How permissions are used
- debugger: applies and clears Chrome DevTools Protocol network conditions only on tabs you turn on. NetStutter does not use debugger access to inspect or record traffic. Chrome may show its standard debugging information bar.
- storage: saves Current Settings and Profiles locally on your device.
- activeTab: responds to your toolbar click and checks whether that tab is supported.
- contextMenus: adds a Switch Profile menu to the NetStutter toolbar icon so you can choose one of your locally saved Profiles as your default settings. It does not access webpage content.
You can enable multiple tabs independently. Clicking an enabled tab's icon again clears its simulated conditions and detaches NetStutter from that tab. Chrome can also end debugger sessions, including through its browser-level Cancel control; NetStutter then discards the affected running states.
Sharing and limited use
NetStutter does not sell or share your information. It does not use information for advertising, profiling, creditworthiness, or lending decisions. Any information handled locally is used only for the network simulation, settings, and Profiles features described here. NetStutter's use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Retention and your control
Saved settings and Profiles remain in local extension storage until you change or remove them, clear the extension's local data, or uninstall the extension. You can edit or delete Profiles in Settings. Turning a tab off stops its simulation; closing a tab also removes its running session. Already running tabs use the configuration captured when you enabled them, until you turn them off.
NetStutter does not use Chrome storage sync and does not operate a server that holds a copy of your settings or Profiles. Executable code and UI assets are included in the extension package; the extension does not load remote code.
Scope and changes
This policy covers the NetStutter extension. Websites you visit, Chrome itself, and the Chrome Web Store have their own privacy practices. We will update this policy if NetStutter's information handling changes and show the revised effective date here.
